Laboratory studies
In laboratory studies , individual reactions and complex reaction processes that are significant in the atmosphere can be investigated under controlled conditions in simulation chambers and flow reactors. Since the late 1970s, the Department of Physical Chemistry in Wuppertal has been conducting laboratory studies to elucidate the chemical and physical properties of pollutants in the gas phase (gas-phase chemistry) and, since the early 1990s, with investigations into chemical and physical processes on surfaces (heterogeneous chemistry).
